Guitar class goes on the road

As part of the arts and culture work at SWOP, we took our guitar classes on an educational trip to El Rito, where legendary New Mexican folk musician and teacher, Cipriano Vigil, lives. Cipriano gave us an all day guitar workshop on techniques, styles, and history of New Mexican folk music. He also talked about his role in the social justice and Chicano movement, which is how SWOP and Cipriano connected long ago. We believe that promoting and preserving positive parts of traditions, arts, and culture are essential in building our communities and making social change. Our guitar class will perform at the holiday party at SWOP on December 13th. The classes will be offered next semester as well. Contact Rosina at 247-8832 to sign up.
