This was produced by 4 incredible young women who spent their summer here at SWOP planning, shooting and editing this film, not to mention building consciousness. They were a part of the Summer Youth Intern Program with 4 other young women working to build our Take Control Campaign against military recruitment.
If you want to see more of the great work that came out of this year's summer program come to Coronado Mall on Saturday (tomorrow 8-9-08) at 2:00pm (don't be late or you'll miss it!)
Or you can meet us at the press conference at 6400 Uptown Blvd at 3:00pm. See ya there! But for now, enjoy!

3 Tell us what you think:
Rather than mocking the military, why don't these kids do something productive, like volunteer at the VA; or the their congressional representatives.
The military didn't start this war.
OUR elected representatives did.
anon,
you make an interesting point. i really didn't see it as mocking the military, but rather the military's recruitment strategies...which are at the behest of those, your words, "elected representatives."
I'd like to point out that for all intensive purposes this is Bush's war. And Bush's democratic credentials have been seriously challenged. It may feel good and be easy to blame the rest of those "electeds" who went along, but it isn't necessarily productive either.
New Mexico's history with the military is deep. Along with disproportional representation in the military, and therefore great service to the country, it has also been a nuclear testing and military dumping ground. Combine that with a certain economic dependence on the military industrial complex, and it leaves our young people with fewer and fewer opportunities.
Please read Our Free Speech, a recent post on SWOPblogger for more on our organization.
I don't see what the point of this is. I would say anyone interested in the military is fully aware of the risks and responsibilities they take on by signing up. Including the possibility that they may have to kill someone or even be killed themselves. You really think this video is going to stop anyone who wants to sign up? It just seems unpatriotic and very disrespectful of the sacrifices of others for this country. Whether you mean it to come off this way or not, it comes that way to me.
